چکیده

The mating call of Isoperla bipartita is described. The male call is composed of 3–10 groups, each of 1–4 rubs. The times between rubs average 89.52msec (between first and second), 43.52msec (between second and third) and 35.28 msec (between third and fourth). The time between two groups averages 180.75 msec and varies from 142 to 290msec. The female answer is composed of a beat and rub repeated at 479.09msec intervals on average and interspersed between the male call groups between 94 and 184msec (mean = 118.11msec) after the last rub of the male group. The I. bipartita call can be considered as a ‘complex and modified pattern’ because the male produces calls of 1–4 rubs by group and the female answers overlapping the male call by percussion-rubbing-produced signals. Moreover, it is different from other studied Iberian Isoperla calls, being probably a species-specific behavioural pattern.

A new species of Isoperla (Insecta, Plecoptera) from the Karawanken, with considerations on the Southern Limestone Alps as centers of endemism

A new species of the genus Isoperla (Plecoptera, Perlodidae), belonging to the oxylepis species-group is described, and the male mating call is characterized. Its range falls within a small region of the Southern Limestone Alps which is well known to be one endemism-centre of aquatic insects.

The Male Drumming Call of Isoperla nevada Aubert , 1952 ( Plecoptera , Perlodidae )

The male drumming call of Isoperla nevada is described for the first time. The call is composed of a variable number (mode = 3) of diphasic sequences. The first sequence is longer, and contains more beats than the following ones. The number of beats per second increases during phase I of each sequence. The time between phases is less than 0.03 seconds while the time between two sequences varies...

Relative Effects of Juvenile and Adult Environmental Factors on Mate Attraction and Recognition in the Cricket, Allonemobius socius

Finding a mate is a fundamental aspect of sexual reproduction. To this end, specific-mate recognition systems (SMRS) have evolved that facilitate copulation between producers of the mating signal and their opposite-sex responders. Environmental variation, however, may compromise the efficiency with which SMRS operate. In this study, the degree to which seasonal climate experienced during juveni...

A molecular survey on the genetic variation and mating type of Erysiphe necator Schw. isolates found in Iran, using RAPD technique

Powdery mildew caused by Erysiphe necator, is one of the most economically damaging diseases of grapevine throughout the world. This is the first molecular biology study on this fungus in Iran. The aims of the present study were (a) to analyse genetic diversity between isolates of E. necator fungus in four main grape production regions in Iran, i. e., Qazvin, Alamoot, Takestan and Shahriar and ...

Pregnancy in a Breastfeeding Mouse without Mating

In this report, a rare case of pregnancy in a mouse without mating and during breastfeeding is presented. Out-bred NMRI mice were prepared for mating. Two female mice without superovulation were caged with one male. The next morning, vaginal plaque was not detected; therefore, females were kept in the cage with the same male for 4 more days. One of the females delivered 4 offspring: one female ...
